The Type 86 (other designation: WZ-501) is a Chinese tracked infantry fighting vehicle (IFV). The first vehicles of this type appeared in 1987, but officially entered the line in 1992. The drive is provided by a single diesel engine with a capacity of 298 HP. The cart is 6.74 meters long and 2.97 meters wide. The armament consists of a single 73 mm cannon, a 7.62 mm machine gun and a guided anti-tank missile launcher.

The Type 86 vehicle is a fairly faithful, license-free copy of the Soviet BMP-1 vehicle. Its main task is to transport its own infantry to the battlefield and provide them with fire support, and even the ability to fight lightly armored enemy vehicles. The vehicle probably has armor up to 14 mm thick, which protects the troops from small arms and artillery fragments. The Type 86 is also capable of negotiating water obstacles without any special preparation. Based on its chassis and hull, many development versions have been developed, including: WZ-503 (armed only with a 12.7 mm machine gun), WZ-504 (tank destroyer) or Type 86A (version with a modern cannon 30 mm caliber, with modernized electronics and a missile launcher).
